Belknap was born in Damariscotta. She is the daughter of David Belknap, and Louise Belknap. She attended Lincoln Academy in Newcastle Maine. When she was an undergraduate of Middlebury College (Vermont), she began to become attracted to the act. The next stage was at the American Conservatory Theater where she earned a Masters of Fine Arts. Belknap's television credits include series regular roles in Medical Investigation (related to ER and Third Watch) and The Handler as well as a regular role in Deadline as well as guest-starring roles on Law & Order Law & Order Special Victims Unit and Without a Trace.
